【Insight News】 A Language School with Difference

One of the best language schools in UK and Ireland, Centre of English Study (CES) has set up its first school in Taipei this April. This is also the first British/Irish language school to ever launch an official branch in Taiwan.
Founded in 1979 by his mother, Justin and his brothers have now taken over the responsibilities of running CES. Over the last 30 years it has developed an international reputation for the care and attention that every client receives. CES has three year round schools in London, Dublin and Worthing. And summer centres for adults and juniors in both the UK and Ireland. Every year CES welcomes students from over 58 different countries.
CES won the Language Travel Magazine’s award for the Best English Language School in Europe in 2007 and was shortlisted again in 2008. CES is fully accredited by the British Council and the Irish Department of Education. We are also a full member school of EAQUALS (The European Association of Quality Language Schools.)
Having visited Taiwan on many occasions it is a place that Justin feels at home and very comfortable in. ‘We have been lucky to do business with UKEAS and over the years have become friends with the owners. I feel that it is very important to know and like the people that you do business with.’ said Justin.
‘‘ Taiwanese students are very driven and always do very well in the courses, but sometime do not integrate as well as they might. European students possibly have a better balance of study & life. The Taiwanese students are very academically focused and are always very polite and courteous to both their teachers and other students. I have to say that they are a real pleasure to have in the school. ’’
CES has a long tradition of putting the student first! Their aim is to have the best school in Taiwan both in an academic sense and also in a holistic sense. For them it is very important that the student feels relaxed and comfortable and at home. ‘If the student feels part of CES we feel then they will not only learn quicker but will feel part of the CES Team.’
CES also plan to introduce film clubs/ book clubs and special conversation after class sessions. They will also be using the most up to date materials and methodology that is available. CES has a huge panel of academic experts in all schools so they will be able to cross pollinate ideas and material. They also use podcasts, you Tube and the internet both in and outside the classroom.
CES quarantines results through peer and student observation and puts emphasis on the whole learning experience. All teachers will be native speakers and must have an university degree with a recognised TELF Qualification. The same as their schools in UK & Ireland.
Knowing that Taiwanese students are a bit shy and quiet, CES makes it its job to bring students out and to make sure that they will get the full learning experience by making the student feel relaxed and comfortable.
‘‘ If a student has a difficulty it is our job to identify this and to help the student make the progress that they need. CES has a team of people ready to help!!! Our motto is CARE, EXCELLENCE and SUCCESS! ’’
Although concentrating on the IELTS courses at the beginning, CES Taipei hopes to eventually provide its students in Taiwan a standard and learning experience that is second-to-none on a variety of courses.
